Epiphany and the Year of God’s Favor
Epiphany means appearing and refers to the manifestation of Christ to the Gentiles. Jesus was not only the savior of the Jews, but the savior of all the nations—the whole world. At His birth, Mary and Joseph, the shepherds, and later the Magi (wise men from the east) all celebrated the newborn King. But Luke also draws our attention to Jesus’ inaugural sermon in Nazareth, proclaiming the fulfillment of Isaiah’s message.
