Israel comes out of Egypt ready to go the land of milk and honey. Instead of heading north, the Lord takes them south into the wilderness. Not only is this the wrong way, it leaves Israel a sitting duck for the Egyptian chariots to come destroy them. God brings Israel to the brink of death in order to save them to the uttermost.
