Church leadership can seem like a mundane topic, but in reality it never is. The birth of the diaconate follows the mess the Holy Spirit made in Jerusalem at Pentecost. The disciples were ready to be at rest, but instead would be put to work. When the Spirit moves, problems arise in the church. Until the resurrection, God continues his mission, sending his disciples out as witnesses, which results in bringing new people in and with them new challenges, new complaints and new solutions. The diaconate is a glorious solution.
