The book of Esther is one of two in the Bible named after women. It’s even more unique in that it’s the only book that doesn’t mention God. It took over 600 years AD before a commentary was written on it, and it’s rarely preached. Calvin didn’t write or apparently preach on it, and Luther lumped it with 2 Maccabees as unhelpful because of “too many unnaturalities.” Esther is a wonderful book about God’s faithfulness to His people on the margins, and through them to us all. We don’t know the author and God isn’t mentioned because His perfect providence is in high relief.
