Jacob prepares for death as his life is coming to an end. This is the most important thing to prepare for because regardless when we go, it will be soon. Jonathan Edwards resolved, “to think much on all occasions of my own dying, and of the common circumstances which attend death.” This is not a call to be somber about death, or to happily complete a checklist to get ready. Jacob shows us how to live unto death because his hope is in God.
