Psalm 43 continues pleas for deliverance David began in Psalm 42. It has no superscription and includes the same refrain as Psalm 42: "Why are you cast down, O my soul?" (v.5). These psalms go together and again he longs to return to the tabernacle to worship and sing, but he also calls on God to judge him, to vindicate his cause (v.1). David knows he is in the right and therefore wants God to prove it to be the case.
