The title Genesis is taken from its first word which means “in the beginning.” This is the beginning of everything: creation, covenant, fall, redemption, life, death, marriage, poetry, music, war, cities and civilizations. The scope is topically and chronologically enormous. The whole Bible grows from this trunk, so it rewards understanding. The New Testament authors often quote it and still 3500 years later its characters and stories captivate us. We want to see the continuity and applicability of Genesis to our lives, the same grace of God working then and now.
