Because marriage is a picture of the relationship between Christ and the church, a Christian husband speaks all the time about how Jesus treats His bride. This honor completely overwhelms the sane man who knows something of his sins, but the fact that God does it this way means His grace is sufficient for the humble to imitate their Lord. We say with Augustine, “Command what you will, and give what you command.”
