In contrast to the rich young ruler who couldn’t walk away from his stuff, and to James and John who couldn’t see past their desire for power, blind Bartimaeus sees Jesus. The fact that this blind man came to see is indicative of the change possible for our troubled race. This is the only healing in Mark where we know the name of the person healed, and it’s the last healing in the book. We’re supposed to see what happened to him, what can happen to us, and to make the church a place where the blind call out.
