Now therefore, listen to me, my children;
Pay attention to the words of my mouth:
Do not let your heart turn aside to her ways,
Do not stray into her paths;
For she has cast down many wounded,
And all who were slain by her were strong men.
Her house is the way to hell,
DeScending to the chambers of death.
Proverbs 7:24-27
The end of Proverbs 7 comments on the simpleton who went to the seductress’ house. She flattered, promised secrecy, and even paid her vows and brought peace offerings–a religious girl who means no harm. She sounds good, looks good, smells good, and has thought of everything, so don’t get anywhere near her: “all who were slain by her were strong men” (vv. 25-26). There are some temptations that have no purchase on certain people. Pulling slots in a casino or buying lottery tickets doesn’t appeal to those who know the odds; precautions aren’t necessary. But sexual sin isn’t like that. Strong men who want to stay strong don’t make room for easy and available women on their phones, computers, at the office or anywhere else. Solomon was strong and in many ways full of wisdom, but on this one he learned the hard way as his foreign wives led him astray to false gods.
