The third deadly sin is greed, forbidden in the 10th Commandment as covetousness. Among the second table of the law, commandments five through ten, only the prohibition of coveting explicitly addresses our inner desires. God wants us to be free from sin not just in outward actions but in our hearts and minds. Slaves of desire want to “look but not touch,” but without holiness no one will see the Lord. This sin is particularly slippery because we dress it up in various disguises.
