The Apostles’ Creed

Preacher:
Passage: Romans 10:8-9

The creeds have fallen on hard times. Many people believe both in and outside the church that doctrine divides, love unites. From the outside the thinking goes that all religions are basically the same and if only we could focus on what unites us, people would be less dogmatic and the world would be a better place. From the inside, many Christians are suspicious of anything from before the Reformation much less the (presumably) cold, formulaic creeds. But the creeds are living treasures, some of the richest and most beautiful truth the Holy Spirit has given to the church. God’s people confess the truth.
