The tribes of Israel have all received their land and now the final allotment consists of forty-eight cities where the Levites will live among Israel and care for their livestock. The six cities of refuge serve to heal and prevent shedding of blood, and these Levitical cities would serve to minister the word of God throughout Israel. The concern for ministry to the people of God and the cities where we live hasn’t diminished in the new covenant but only increased as the gospel goes out to the nations.
