James tells the scattered brethren to count it all joy when facing all kinds of trials knowing they’ll receive the crown of life when it’s over. But believers are not just enduring trials with the goal of survival. We are to speak and live in a way that reveals God’s righteousness. The Lord implants His word and we work out our salvation as we are quick to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger. This is not just for times of peaceful negotiation, but how we obey in midst of escalating conflict.
