Psalm 118 completes the six Hallel Psalms (113-118) which were prayed at festival celebrations in Israel. The high note in this psalm celebrates God preserving the persecuted and rejected man and installing him as king. It may describe King David’s ascension to the throne, but the ultimate fulfillment is in Christ as the New Testament reveals. Jesus’ ascension and coronation at the right hand of the Father is a monumental event in the kingdom of God.
