Preaching

Preacher:
Passage: Romans 10:14-17

When you think of all the different ways God could have communicated his truth to us, preaching is a surprising choice. Preaching has negative connotations today as if it primarily has to do with telling someone what they’re doing wrong. But the thrust of the gospel is that sin has been addressed in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus. This gospel preached is the power of salvation unto everyone who believes. Paul reasons from effect to cause: if they’re going to call on Christ, they have to believe. If they’re to believe, they have to hear. And if they’re going to hear, someone must be sent to preach. This is why preaching is central and beautiful.
