Keeping the Feast of Christmas

Preacher:
Passage: Luke 2:25-35

The incarnation is the greatest miracle ever. Pantheistic and polytheistic religions have incarnations and reincarnations, but only Christianity maintains the Creator/creature distinction and yet affirms the eternal God taking on flesh (1 Tim. 3:16). Ancient philosophy had a tug-o-war locating reality either in heaven or earth, represented in Raphael’s The School of Athens where Plato points upward into heaven and Aristotle downward toward earth. In Jesus Christ God becomes man and brings the two together, heaven to earth. The gospel teaches that the fallen world is being redeemed, and the incarnation kicked this project into high gear.
