It matters what you love, and it matters how you love. John transitions from talking about the greatest commandment—loving God—to explaining the second greatest commandment, loving your neighbor as yourself. As simple as “love your neighbor” sounds, to love like Jesus is costly, but nothing compared to the blessing that follows.
